2019 - 2025 comparison of my personal spending grand totals to see how my actual cost of living increases stacked up against official government of Canada metrics: Official BofC CPI baseline (2019-2025) approximately 19.9% cumulative, 3.1% annualized CAGR. My personal cost: 78.78% cumulative; 10.17% annualized CAGR. Purchasing power: while my 2019 dollar now holds roughly 56 cents of its original value the official value of a 2019 dollar is 83 cents. Anyone else notice a similar disconnect from their personal purchasing power and official figures? Current yield CBIL/CASH/PSA is a combined average 2.33% Current headline CPI for Canada 2.8%

I keep very detailed and accurate tracking of all my core living expenses and discretionary lifestyle expenses and found that inflation is typically 3x what is published by CPI. I then seek to offset as much of my costs by shopping insurance, eliminating things like weed/fertilizer service and do it myself, and frankly eat out less. Service gets worse every year, food doesn’t get better, and I’m tired of tipping starting at 18% and sometime 20%! But something that most on Blossom don’t recognize. Your asset growth is primarily BECAUSE OF INFLATION, and a depreciating currency. As costs go up, this is compounded layer by layer in the economy with companies recouping this compounding inflation within its business. Higher revenue and earnings isn’t just pure profit growth RELATIVE to the previous year, a good portion of earnings growth is this hidden compounding inflation.

The fact that CPI uses a rotating benchmark in and of itself completely destroys it for me.  I find the changes to be incredibly disingenuous and completely out to lunch. I’m a married father of three. My expenses inflate far higher than the bullshit numbers reported on here. It’s going to be 20$ for strawberries in a year at this rate. Fucking insane. And yes, I’ll still buy strawberries, or I would have a revolt on my hands 😆ðŸ˜
